With almost 20 years’ of frontline experience, Cossum Swim Schools remains at the forefront of swimming and aquatic teaching in both N Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. We follow the STA’s accredited Teacher qualifications - adopted in over 20 countries worldwide these are designed specifically to ensure swimming teachers are qualified to the highest level.
 
The rigorous STA courses are required to gain employment as a swimming teacher and are designed specifically for those who want to confidently teach non swimmers, beginners and improvers of all ages.

The Royal Life Saving Society is the UK's premier Education and Training Skills organisation for Water Safety, Aquatic Supervision and Drowning Prevention. RLSS UK is a Charity and the Governing Body for Lifesaving Sport and Lead Industry Body for training Lifeguards, setting standards and providing guidance and advice on aquatic safety
 
The qualifications are supported by the International Learn to Swim Programme (ILSP) which provides the platform for an inclusive, progressive and fun programme that fosters pupil engagement and motivation, whilst rewarding achievement and endeavour.

Safety Award for Teachers

£120

Holders of the Safety Award for Teachers are capable in pool rescue, first aid, adult, child and infant CPR techniques. Holders will be competent to deal with poolside emergencies in accordance with the HSE publication Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools and British Standard BS EN 15288 Part 2, Safety Requirements for Operations.

Student Swimming Teachers Certificate

STA Award in Swimming Teaching

The STA Award in Swimming Teaching aims to produce teachers that can teach up to 10 beginners and deliver the STAnley Series of awards, as well as the Octopus and Goldfish Series of STA’s International Learn to Swim Programme. They may also act as an assistant swimming teacher and can teach larger classes or advanced skills under the direct supervision of a swimming teacher qualified to certificate level.

The STA Certificate in Swimming Teaching aims to prepare holders to teach, without supervision, pupils of all levels.

Baby & Preschool Teacher Certificate

The STA Baby & Preschool Teacher Certificate teaches aquatic activities, including paddle strokes to babies and pre-school children during adult and children lessons. They are able to deliver the STA Starfish programme, as well as the Teddy Bear awards and up to the STAnley Series of STA’s International Learn to Swim Programme.

Pool Responder Course

The Pool Responder qualification is designed to train candidates in pool rescue, CPR techniques and first aid competencies in order to deal with poolside emergencies in accordance with the National Occupational Standards and the HSE publication Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools.

Swimming Teachers Foundation Course for School Teachers

Holders of the School Teachers Foundation Certificate will be qualified to deliver school swimming lessons. This course can be delivered to Primary and Secondary School Teachers who deliver school swimming lessons.

National Pool Lifeguad Qualification

£240

The RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is the most awarded lifeguard qualification in the United Kingdom and Ireland that complies with the industry guidance contained within the HSE publication 'Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools' Generally, the NPLQ is a recruitment requirement for a number of jobs from Pool Lifeguard to Centre Manager. On successful completion of the course you will be fully qualified to work as a Pool Lifeguard.
